How to take data backup if Windows OS is crashed (like Blue Screen Dump / Unrecoverable Error) in your Desktop/Laptop?

1) Boot with Windows XP CD / Windows 7 DVD

2) When the "Welcome to Setup" screen is displayed, press Shift+F10 to enable access to a command prompt.

3) Connect your USB External USB Hard Disk to take data backup either from boot partition (C:\ Drive) or Extended Partitions (D:\, E:\, F:\ etc.)

4) Please use the following DOS command to take data backup: (Assume G:\ is your external USB HDD)
xcopy D:\*.* G:\ /s (/s Switch to copy entire directory structure)
